Name: Yami Yugi/Atem(u) (Other names: Yami no Yuugi, Other Yugi, Yugi, Pharaoh, Spirit, Dark Yugi, Nameless Pharaoh...)
Age: Unknown (18? But if you want to get technical, 3,018. I've heard all kinds of guesses of what his real age is, so I'm just going with one of them that seems likely.)
Gender: Male
Appearance:
As Pharaoh:
Personality: When Atem was first released from the Millennium Puzzle after 3,000 years, was an unforgiving vigilante.
Whenever Yugi and his friends faced any trouble or distress, Atem would appear and force his own justice onto the person causing the trouble. Atem's punishments were, more often than not, brutal.
As time passes, being with Yugi teaches him how to be more compassionate and kind.
He also learns the importance of "Friendship" and "Unity".
Atem is fairly reserved and didn't communicate much with Yugi or his friends until they discovered that Yugi and his "other self" were two entirely different people.
Atem refuses to lose any game he partakes in. And sometimes his will to never lose is so strong, he doesn't even see the possible consequences that winning could hold.
He also tends to be very prideful, strong and commanding. But his pride tends to be his biggest strength and weakness.
Learning to lose once in a while becomes a lesson that is tested later on.
He cares very much for his friends and is always willing to protect them.
For a long time, Atem had no memories of his past or who he was. There was a time where he was told that he used to be a very evil man and this shocked and depressed Atem. He almost accepted it as the truth and almost sacrificed himself to Dartz and the Seal of Orichalcos.
Background: Atem was an Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh who ruled Egypt until he had to sacrifice his life and seal his soul and the darkness (Zorc Necrophades) that was threatening the world, within the Millennium Puzzle. Atem used his own name as the password to the spell of sealing. To make sure that the seal couldn't be broken he even wiped his own memory of his name.
The Millennium Puzzle was broken into many pieces and the chosen one would be the one to solve Puzzle. A golden box held the peices of the Puzzle and was sealed within the trap filled tomb of Atem.
3,000 years later, Yugi's grandfather (when he was younger) entered Atem's tomb with two other men. Unknown to Solomon/Sugoroku, the two men were grave robbers. They made Sugoroku lead them through the tomb to the treasure. They planned to kill him once they reached the treasure.
Along the way, one of the men ended up being killed. Once Sugoroku and the last man found the treasure, the man shot Sugoroku in the shoulder while he was crossing the bridge to the treasure. Almost falling off the bridge, Sugoroku caught the edge and hung on for dear life while the other man tried to cross the bridge.
But the bridge was a test as well and people who had greed/evil in their hearts, would be eaten by monsters. The man was killed.
Sugoroku was about to fall until he was suddenly saved by the spirit of Atem who said, 'I've been waiting for you."
Once Sugoroku recieved the Millennium Puzzle, he later gave it to his grandson, Yugi.
It took 8 years before Yugi finished the Millennium Puzzle and freed Atem's spirit. But while Atem's soul was sealed within the Millennium Puzzle, he had lost all his memories of his name, who he is and his past.
For a while, Atem believed he was Yugi and believed that Yugi's feelings and emotions were his own.
But as time passed, everyone began to realize that Yugi and Atem were not the same person. Thus Atem began to become his own person.
While no one knew who Atem was, a journey was later set out to discover Atem's past and help him gain back his lost memories.
Strengths: His strength and determination. Plus the love of his friends.
Weaknesses: His pride and refusal to lose. And the fact that if hit right, he can be easily decieved. (Thus, him almost believing the words of Dartz; about him being an evil Pharaoh.)
Other: A lot of things about Atem are unknown. Such as his birthdate, favorite foods, his age and such.
